Have Phobias Taken Over Your Life?
Do you have an irrational fear of a situation, person, thing, or activity? If so, is it manageable or debilitating? While it’s possible to have a phobia and avoid what triggers it, when you can’t prevent encounters with the cause, it can feel like fear has taken over your life.
Many people dislike or are mildly afraid of spiders, snakes or clowns, have apprehension about public speaking, or feel uneasy flying. For the most part, the average daily life can be well lived without coming into contact with these things. BUT for you, the fear of something you can’t avoid exceeds the norm. Maybe it’s small enclosed spaces and heights, and your windowless office is in a high rise building. Maybe it’s big growling dogs and you have a new neighbor with a Rottweiler.
Maybe a growing phobia is becoming a problem for normal functioning in your everyday life. It might even be getting uncomfortable to think or talk about it, because doing so evokes mental imagery that makes you feel panicky. You want to get this under control right away. And you can – with hypnosis and NLP. At Waves of Change, you’ll have the advantage of hypnosis along with NLP to quickly and easily get to the root of your phobia and release its hold on you.
Phobia – What it is! How it manifests itself!
What may be considered a normal fear for most people, can become an irrational phobia for you which operates on the emotional level. Phobia can cause a heightened state of desperate apprehension. Your mind becomes filled with the questions of how much worse will it get, or how much longer will it last. Your body’s stress response system goes into full throttle; you may begin to experience symptoms such as:
- Pounding or racing heart
- Shortness of breath
- Rapid speech or inability to speak
- Dry mouth
- Upset stomach or nausea
- Elevated blood pressure
- Trembling or shaking
- Chest pain or tightness
A phobia involves an irrational, persistent fear of a specific object or situation that’s out of proportion to the actual risk.
After repeated experiences resulting in a phobic response, you may begin to dread the possibility, so that it overtakes your normal functioning. Your imagination paints a picture of something you want to avoid at all costs. And then your emotions and body go into a kind of hyper-alertness, not knowing when the panic will return.
In both pain and phobia, your physical and emotional resilience muscles contract, making the pain or fear worse, even if you don’t dare to ask if you will survive. You might know intellectually that you will, but because of the phobia or pain you might believe otherwise.
